SOLD Antique 'Ne Cede Malis' Reverse Intaglio Rock Crystal Ring
A stunning ring with a beautifully painted reverse intaglio rock crystal as its subject. The painting and carving has wonderful detailing with the vanes of the feathers shown in great clarity. At the centre of the feathers is a 6 pointed star and to the bottom is a moto 'ne cede malis' meaning 'do not yield to misfortune'. I cannot find the origin of this emblem, perhaps from a college or the military. I believe the reverse intaglio dates to the late Victorian period and has been converted into a ring at a later date. All gold fixtures and the shank are made from 9ct gold.
