Antique Sterling Silver Compass & Thermometer Charm
A lovely and unusual piece from the late Victorian period, with a nod to the Aesthetic Movement. This interesting pendant is made from sterling silver (marked .925 on the outer frame) and is glass fronted. Behind the glass sits a working compass coupled with a thermometer around it. I cannot say for certain whether the thermometer is still working, though the liquid appears to be in approximately the correct place. It is unusual to find a compass coupled with a thermometer and this is what makes this piece extra special. To the back is some pretty engraving, which includes leaves and flowers; the natural world combined with science. The piece takes a very pleasing form and would look wonderful worn on a silver chain.
NB. A silver bail could be added through the top bail if required. Please let us know if you would like this.
