Edwardian 15ct Gold Yellow Zircon & Pearl Heart Necklace
A lovely large pendant from the late Edwardian period, c1915. The pendant is made from 15ct gold, unmarked though tested as such, and is in the shape of a lovely large heart. The wire heart frame is dotted with little individually claw set pearls. The pearls have a pretty lustre and are slightly baroque in shape. At the centre dangles an interesting natural zircon. The zircon is claw set and is an unusual yellow colour with a slightly brown undertone. Zircons were often used in jewellery during this period and they come in many colours; this is a beautiful example. They are a natural stone, though often confused with manmade cubic zirconia, which is made to imitate diamonds.
The pendant will come on a 9ct gold period chain as pictured. The chain has a barrelled clasp and measures approx 16" long
