• SOLD Edwardian 9ct Gold Cased Opal Heart Locket

This item is out of stock

A pretty locket from the Edwardian period, c1905. The locket is made from 9ct gold to the back and front that cases a lower grade metal on the inside, a common method of construction for lockets during this period. It has been made in the shape of a heart and has a lovely opal at the centre set in a star shaped design. The opal may be small, but it does have a lovely play of colour, and sits prettily in the slightly rosy tint of the gold. There are two heart shaped 9ct gold frames inside that can be removed to place your own photos behind.

The locket will come on a 14kt gold fill chain as pictured.

Materials - 9ct Gold Cased, Opal

    Age - C1905

Size - The locket measures approx 15mm wide by 13.5mm long excluding the bail.

Condition - Good. Wear commensurate with age. The gold casing has worn a little around the edges of the heart and where the catch is connected to the back. This reveals the base metal underneath, but not to the detriment of the piece. When the frames are removed, the metal inside the locket has a bumpy texture, noted for accuracy only, please see the pictures
