SOLD Edwardian Stanhope Barrel Charm Pendant - Niagara Falls Souvenir
This unusual and fairly rare item is from the Edwardian period and is a souvenir charm from Niagara Falls. It is made from satinspar, a type of feldspar that was mined in the area at the time. The souvenir is a Stanhope viewer. A Stanhope is an optical viewer that allows you to see micro photographs without the use of a microscope. This particular one depicts scenes from Niagara Falls with the words 'Souvenir of Niagara Falls' at the center of a collage. These souvenirs were made between 1890 and 1920 and are an excellent piece of history. The satinspar has 14kt gold fittings making this a wonderful barrel shaped pendant or charm - perfect worn alone or as part of a collection of charms.
The barrel hangs on an 18" 14kt gold fill fine chain.
