SOLD Georgian 18ct Gold Diamond Wave Ring with Snake Shoulders
A beautiful and unusual ring from the late Georgian period, c1830. The ring is made from 18ct gold and has an interesting wave design to the top. The top of the wave has a silver pinched collet setting that has wonderful rose cut diamonds set into it. The diamonds are all a little different in shape and would have been hand cut giving them their individual look. The facets have been cut 'just so' to give the diamonds a lovely hint of sparkle on the finger and they are all secure in their settings. This beautiful ring is finished with a shank that has snake heads for the shoulders. The snakes show very fine detailing and you can see the little teeth in the month. A rare piece, full of character.
This piece may be a marriage of two Georgian elements as you can see the subtle joins between the snake heads and the wave top. This does not detract from it’s beauty and it is a rarity non the less.
The box comes with the ring. It is an antique ring box, though I do not know if it is the original. Due to the age of this piece, it should be worn with care and is not for standard everyday use.
