Georgian 18kt Gold French Eglomisé Religious Pendant
A wonderful pendant from the early 19th Century, c1800s. The pendant is a beautiful 18kt gold bezel with glass set on either side. This pendant shows eglomisé decoration; eglomisé is the name given when glass is decorated with gold leaf or painted with gold paint on the reverse. This is a beautiful example with foil added to give an extra sparkle. At the centre of one side is a painting of a pansy, a symbol taken from the French word 'pense' meaning 'to think', and the words beneath 'au seigneur' meaning 'to the lord'. To the other side, a depiction of the three crosses of the crucifixion are painted on a mother of pearl base. The paintings are truly elegant and this is a wonderful religious pendant, a pretty alternative to a cross.
The pendant will come on a 14kt gold fill chain.
