SOLD Victorian 18ct Gold Diamond Cobblestone Ring
A pretty and unusual ring from the Victorian period, c1860s. The ring is made from 18ct gold and has a hexagonal setting to the top that has diamonds throughout. The centre diamond is an old cut with the other diamonds being a variation on a rose cut. These types of rings are known as cobblestone rings and were often made up of the diamond chips when a larger stone was cut. I find these rings particularly charming as there is no real formula to the cuts of the diamonds yet they sparkle beautifully; perfect for the candlelight of the period. This ring is a particularly lovely example as the setting is hexagonal in shape and the centre diamond is a lovely old mine cut. The shank has a lovely ridged design to the shoulders finishing the ring perfectly.
