• SOLD Victorian 800 Silver Niello Star Locket with Spring Clasp

This item is out of stock

A beautiful and versatile locket from the turn of the century, circa 1900. This is a niello locket hanging on a little niello chain of varying link design, with a lovely large niello spring clasp at the top. The locket is French in origin and is made from 800 silver, a quality widely recognized as silver in France. On one side the niello shows a star design and on the other is a pretty floral design that has been overlaid with rose gold. Inside, there is a single frame that can be removed to place a photograph behind. Due to the spring clasp, the locket can be changed between various chains with ease.

Niello is a metallic alloy of sulphur that is combined with silver and used to fill a design that has been engraved on a metal surface.
