• SOLD Rare Victorian Large Gold Cased Elephant Fob Pendant

This item is out of stock

A wonderful and rare fob seal pendant from the mid Victorian period. The seal is large in size and is topped by a gorgeous elephant who appears to stand upon a platform. It is made from gold cased metal and has wonderful repousse work around the seal at the bottom. The seal itself appears to be foiled back crystal and has a lovely deep pink color to the foil that reflects the initials engraved in the crystal. I believe the initials read as J W when printed and are in old script.

Much happened between India and Britain during the Victorian period and passage to India became more accessible with the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. This piece was likely inspired by somebody's travels.
