• SOLD Victorian Solid 9ct Gold Chalcedony Lion Locket Seal

This item is out of stock

A beautiful quality seal from the Victorian period, c1880s. The seal is made from solid 9ct gold, rather than the usual gold cased variety, and has a locket within the base, which opens on a semi hidden hinge. The seal is a white chalcedony stone that depicts a lions head, which would face to the left when used as a wax seal. The lion is beautifully carved. Lions have long been used in heraldry due to their association with bravery and courage, whilst also being known as the king of beasts. With a wonderful scalloped design to the top, this seal is a real beauty.

The chain in the pictures is not for sale and for display only.
