SOLD Vintage 9kt Gold Emerald Snake Ring
An interesting snake ring from the middle of the 20th Century, c1940s. The ring has been made in the shape of a coiled snake and finishes at the top of the finger with some lovely etching in the gold and a pretty snake head. The head is set with a pale green emerald. The curl of the body to the top of the ring means that this snake is connected all the way from head to tail and solidifies the romantic meaning of snake jewellery as love for eternity, fashioned during the Victorian period.
This ring has been well loved in its time and is a little out of shape around the shank. At some point, it has been gilded with high carat gold on the inside of the shank and marked as 14kt gold (585), though the gilding has worn over time and the ring is actually solid 9kt gold. An unusual anomaly. This gilding appears only to have been applied on the inside of the shank so does not affect the appearance of the ring when worn. The emerald is fairly worn. All these details have been reflected in the price.
