Antique 14kt Reverse Intaglio Dog Pendant
A lovely and simple pendant from the early 20th Century. The pendant is a reverse carved intaglio of a foxhound or pointer. Reverse carving is where a domed piece of rock crystal is taken and a picture is carved into the back of the clear quartz. This is then carefully painted to reveal the picture as if it is 3D. This particular example has an awful lot of expression in the lovely dogs face. It is backed by mother of pearl and finally set in a closed back gold setting.
This piece will come on a 14kt gold fill chain similar to the one pictured.
