Antique 15ct Reverse Intaglio Woodcock Pendant

A beautiful pendant from the late Victorian period, c1900. The pendant is made from 15ct gold and has a wonderful reverse painted rock crystal set into it. These designs were created by carving a picture into the back of a rock crystal cabachon and then painting within the carving to produce a vibrant image with a slightly 3D effect. These are also referred to as Essex Crystal and are often backed by mother of pearl. They were very popular from the mid 19th Century until the 1930s. This particular example still has beautiful and vibrant colours and is a lovely subject.

The pendant will come on a 14kt gold fill chain as pictured.

Size - The pendant measures approx 14mm in diameter.

Condition - Excellent. The bail looks to be a replacement to the original.

Weight - 1.96g pendant only.
