sold out

A stunning pendant from the early 20th Century. The pendant is a beautiful example of a boulder opal; an opal that has formed around a host rock. In this instance, the opal has wonderful colours of greens and blues and shimmers beautifully in the light. The host rock can be seen through the back of the frame and little lines of opal can also be viewed where it has filled the faults in the rock. The boulder opal has been mounted in a simple 18ct gold frame and hangs on a 15ct period gold chain.

Details:

Materials - 18ct Gold (tested), Boulder Opal. Chain marked 15ct on clasp, also tested.

Age - Early 20th Century

Size - The opal measures approx 20mm by 15mm. The chain is approx 15 1/4” long

Condition - Very good. The corner of the opal has the appearance of being cracked, but in fact, it is where the opal has filled the host rocks faults. The stone is in excellent condition and completely stable. A little repair to one of the links of the gold chain, noted for accuracy only.

Weight - 4.62g pendant only. 6.37g with chain
