Antique Double Opal Pendant

A pretty and unusual pendant from the turn of the last century, c1900. The pendant is made from 18ct gold and has two wonderful natural opals set within closed back settings. The opals are separated by a little bar and set with gold four pointed stars to the front. These opal pieces may have started life as buttons, though the pendant came to me as it is and it is difficult to know for sure as there is little evidence to suggest any changes. The gemstones have a beautiful blue undertone with blue/green flashes and glow orange at certain angles. A lovely, subtle rainbow for your neck.

The pendant hangs on a 9ct gold chain, which has the look of 18ct and has likely been given a higher carat gold wash; a common practice during this period. The two items came together and are a lovely match.
