Antique Enormous Aqua Glass Ring
A stunning giant ring converted from an early Victorian brooch, though it came to me as it is. The main stone in the brooch is a large aquamarine coloured glass. It has been faceted to create plenty of play of light within the stone and is a wonderful vivid aqua blue. The stone is set in pinchbeck, an alloy of copper and zinc made to mimic gold commonly used during this period, and has a 18ct gold shank that is very much in keeping with the style of the piece. The shank has beautiful gold work all the way around and is very decorative.
One thing to note regarding this ring is that the stone protrudes out of the back of the setting. As it would have been worn as a brooch, this would hardly have mattered, though in ring form, it means that the shank sits away from the finger towards the top and the point of the stone sits on the finger and holds it in place. There is a view from the side in the pictures to illustrate this. The point has a smooth feeling so is not painful on the finger.
A fun statement piece that really resembles the real thing!
