Antique Large Paste Frill Earrings

A stunning pair of earrings from the end of the Victorian period. The earrings are likely French in origin and made from 800-900 silver. They have clear paste stones in ten claw settings. The paste have been cut beautifully in an old mine cut style. They sparkle brightly and are lively stones. The outside of the earrings have a pretty frill made by concertinaed silver. It gives the earrings a lovely sense of fun and adds to their stature. They are complete with shepherds hooks fittings.

Paste was highly popular during this period and is a type of reinforced glass used to imitate diamonds. Often, ladies would have their real jewels copied in paste to allow them to wear them out and avoid theft.
