Antique Pear Emerald Puffy Heart Locket

sold out

A wonderful locket from the late Victorian period. The locket is made from 14kt gold and carries the Hungarian hallmark of a foxes head for 14kt gold. It is a beautiful puffy heart shape and has a spectacular pear cut emerald at the centre. The natural emerald is a vivid green and has some inclusions as you would expect from this beautiful gem. The gold of the heart has a wonderful bloomed appearance with a mild matte finish. The heart is beautifully made with a hidden hinge, a mark of quality, and has two frames inside to place your own photos behind. There is no glass to the frames.

The back of the heart has been poorly repaired with 9kt gold at some point in the lockets history and shades of rose and pale yellow gold show through here due to this repair. Please see the pictures, though in my opinion, the repair is magnified and is not so bad ‘in the flesh’. The heart maintains its puffy shape and the price has been adjusted accordingly.

The chain pictured is for display only.

Details:

Materials - 14kt Gold (marked), Emerald

Age - C1890s (Hungarian hallmark dates it as sometime between 1867 - 1922)

Size - Emerald measures approx 6.2mm by 4.3mm with a depth of around 3mm. Approx 0.38ct. The heart measures approx 22mm long, excluding the bail, by 21mm wide.

Condition - Good. Poor repair as mentioned above. Emerald has a very tiny chip at the point of the pear, hidden by the setting and noted for accuracy. A little of the ‘bloom’ has come away to the front, only visible through magnification and again, noted for accuracy.
