A stunning necklace from the Victorian period. The necklace is a rosary necklace and the ‘beads’ of the rosary are saphiret. This beautiful glass stone was first made in Czechslovakia in the mid 19th Century and is created when gold is melted into sapphire coloured glass. It makes glass that looks brown and has a blue reflection on the surface. The beautiful examples in this necklace are faceted and have a lovely gentle blue glow with the soft brown undertone. The necklace is otherwise gold coloured metal with the cross and Mary junction exhibiting a touch of gilding.

Details:

Materials - Gold Coloured Metal, Saphiret

Age - Late Victorian

Size - The necklace part of the rosary measures around 27” long. The length from the Mary to the tip of the cross is 5.5”.

Condition - Good. Some nibbles to the ends of the beads, as expected for age. One bead only has 2/3 of the bead remaining. Not at all noticeable when worn.

Weight - 19.5g
