Antique Satyr Ring

£0.00
sold out

A petite and delicate ring, likely from the late 18th Century, though it has a later mark for 9ct. Despite the hallmark, it does seem to test up as 15ct gold. It has a simple bezel setting holding a cameo of a satyr mask. Satyrs were likely studied on the Grand Tour; a voyage of discovery for young men in the 18th Century. They are part of Greek mythology and said to represent the luxuriant powers of nature. This particular satyr does not display any horns, though it has the distinguished full hair, rounded nose and open mouth associated with this mystical being. A lovely simple ring and a beautiful collectors piece.
