Antique Sterling Silver Mizpah Ring

£0.00
sold out

A lovely ring from the late Victorian period, marked with the words ‘Sterling Silver’ inside the shank in an old script. The ring is the same width all the way around and has the word ‘Mizpah’ in relief on the top. The rest of the shank is decorated with shapes and patterns and it forms a lovely decorative band.

Mizpah is a Hebrew term meaning ‘may God watch over you’. Mizpah jewellery was traditionally given to a loved one to express that wherever they are, they are always loved. This is a particularly lovely example with its gothic script. There are faint traces of turquoise enamel around some of the letters and relief design indicating that the background was originally enamel. This would have been rather striking, though the texture that remains is still a wonderful contrast. The enamel traces are not visible to the naked eye and you would not know this when the ring is worn.
