Art Deco Niello Watch Chain, 15.5"
A lovely example of this style of chain. The chain is made from 800 silver and is likely French in origin. It appears as silver with a stripe of black and rose gold overlay along the alternative side of the fetter links. Niello is a black compound, usually of sulphur, silver and copper that contrasts with the polished metal around it. It can create a fabulous black stripe pattern and has been used in jewellery for centuries. It was used on watch chains throughout the Victorian period and into Art Deco. This chain is perfect as a choker style necklace and is complete with a dog clip and bolt ring clasp, both highlighted with the niello stripe and in good working order.
