Bernard Instone Banded Agate Ring
A lovely ring from the middle of the 20th century, dated Birmingham 1963. The ring is made from 9ct gold with a full English hallmark and the makers mark for Bernard Instone. Instone was a prominent gold and silversmith throughout the 20th Century and is especially known for his work with enamel on silver. This ring is unusual in this sense as the majority of Instone’s work tends to be silver.
This ring has a simple bezel setting with a beautiful banded agate set within. I would imagine that the agate has been chosen for its distinctive white stripe through the centre and I love the split of colour that this stripe highlights. The ring has ribbed designs in the shoulders and is beautifully made. To the back, the setting is closed and the name ‘Alfred’ has been engraved.
