Edwardian 15ct Gold Pearl & Red Spinel Heart Pendant
£0.00
sold out
A beautiful pendant from the Edwardian period, c1905. The pendant is made from 15ct gold and is in the shape of a heart frame. The frame is set with alternating seed pearls and red spinel gemstones. The spinel have a striking red colour and a soft rectangular shape. Spinel were often mistaken for rubies during this period as they are mined in the same regions and have a similar colour. In fact, the two gemstones fell under the same name for some time until more sophisticated techniques showed their differences. These spinels are particularly lovely and look beautiful as a contrast to the soft creamy lustre of the pearls.
The pendant will come on a 14kt gold fill chain as pictured
