Edwardian 18ct Double Snake Ring

A beautiful example of this style of ring from the early 20th Century. The ring is made from solid 18ct gold and bears a rubbed hallmark to this effect on the inside of the shank. The ring is created as two snakes intertwined; they look a little like they are hugging. They have contrasting patterns engraved into the gold and little tails down the centre of the shoulders on the shank. The engraving continues into the bodies on the shank, though this has rubbed over time towards the back.

The snake is an emblem that became popular during the Victorian period due to the fact that Prince Albert gave Queen Victorian a snake as her engagement ring. It came to represent everlasting love.

Size - The ring measures approx 10mm at the top narrowing to 3.8mm at the back. The heads of the snake are around 14mm across the finger.

Ring Size - UK L 1/4 US 5 3/4 This ring could be resized a little

Condition - Very good. Evidence of a previous re-sizing at the back of the shank; this has been done through the original hallmark unfortunately.
