Edwardian Amethyst Bean Pendant

A wonderful and unusual pendant from the turn of the last century, c1900. The pendant is an amethyst that has been carved in the shape of a bean. The bean was a common symbol during this period and there are various ideas relating to its symbolism, including luck, health and immortality. Generally, the Victorians/Edwardians considered it to be a lucky symbol. This particular bean is faceted throughout and the amethyst has a lovely pale purple colour. The facets create a star at the centre and the bean is a lovely large size.

The bean will come on a 14kt gold fill chain similar to the one pictured.

Materials - Amethyst, 9ct Gold (tested)

Age - C1900

Size - The bean measures approx 22mm by 12.5mm excluding the fittings.

Condition - Very good. Some tiny nibbles here and there and a little wear to the facets in places, one notable bit to one edge. Noted for accuracy only and does not detract from the overall piece. All commensurate with age.
