Edwardian Black Mother of Pearl Bangle

£445.00

A wonderful and unusual bangle from the Edwardian period, c1910s. The bracelet is made from 9ct gold, which has a rich , rosy tint, and is in excellent condition. It has five round mother of pearl pieces set into individual gold settings. I believe the mother of pearl has been dyed black for a more dramatic effect and the pearlescence shows through, a little like a cats eye. I have seen other mother of pearl dyed in this manner, though most often other colours, such as blue and green. In this bangle, it has given the mother of pearl the look of an abalone shell and has created a truly eye-catching bracelet. The settings are complete with little ball details between and to the ends and the bangle has a good tongue clasp. It is finished with a safety chain for extra security.
