Edwardian Petite Cats Eye Chrysoberyl Ring
A pretty and petite ring from the Edwardian period, c1910s. The ring is made from 9ct gold that has a slight rosy tint and has three square shaped settings creating a geometric design. Set within the squares are three cats eye chrysoberyl gemstones. These are a rare and unusual stone with a yellow/green appearance. In this instance, there is a wonderful line of light that travels across the three stones in unison; the cats eye. The contrast of the round stones with the square settings is very pretty.
This ring must be worn with care as the gold exhibits signs of porosity. This is likely from overheating the metal when the ring was first made allowing gas, likely hydrogen, to leak into the metal and create tiny holes when the gold cools. This can weaken its structure. This lovely ring has survived as it is with its pretty gemstones for some time and it will certainly continue this way if worn with some thought.
