Edwardian Snake Ruby & Pearl Bracelet
A wonderful and unusual bracelet from the Edwardian period, c1905. The bracelet tests as around 12ct gold. 12ct, like 15ct gold, was in use up until 1932, though it is more unusual to find pieces in this gold karat. This bracelet has a wonderful head at the top, which I feel is depicting a snake, though it also has a slight look of a dolphin. This style of head has been noted with snake jewellery before from this period as well as earlier pieces, and it is not uncommon to find more dolphin-like features. The snake head has little white sapphire rose cut eyes. They glisten like diamonds due to their facets and complete the intriguing head perfectly.
The snake is holding a ring of rubies in its mouth with a split pearl at the centre. The chain of the bracelet is a miniature panther link and the bracelet has a hidden clasp with a safety chain for extra security. It is in beautiful condition and rather elegant.
