A wonderful example of this style of pencil from the early 20th Century, c1920s. The popularity of Egyptian inspired pieces rose upon the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922. This is one such example and is made from silver. The sarcophagus has coloured enamel all around the outside with hieroglyphic symbols down each side. It has a lovely, expressive face with plenty of detail.

At the bottom, the feet pull out to reveal an extendable pencil in rose gold plate. The feet can be twisted to allow the pencil end to come out of its casing. There is no lead in the pencil currently, though this could be added. It is a fantastic feat of engineering and the pencil fits snuggly in its sarcophagus case. The pendant is complete with a large bolt ring allowing it be clasped onto a necklace or bracelet with ease.

Details:

Materials - Silver (tested), Enamel

Age - C1920s

Size - The sarcophagus measures approx 27mm long excluding the bail, by 12mm wide. The bolt ring is approx 12mm in diameter. The pencil measures approx 51mm when fully extended.
