Georgian 7 Stone Garnet Ring

£350.00

A wonderful ring from the Georgian period, early 19th Century. The ring has an 18ct gold shank and the gemstones are silver set as is customary of the period. There are seven garnets set across the finger in a half hoop style. The garnets are graduated in size and are a little worn around the facets with age. They mainly have a rich deep pink/purple colour such as almandine garnets, though some appear very slightly redder. Overall there is certainly symmetry across the stones. This is likely how they were set as it was often the case that gemstones were used based on their size and cut match and not always for their colour.

One of the end garnets is possibly a replacement as it does not sit so comfortably in its cut-down collet setting, though it is certainly secure and very much in keeping with the ring. The shank is 18ct gold and has slightly clumsy split shoulders with the resemblance of a fern style design; fairly commonplace during this time. A lovely piece of history at a reasonable price due to its condition.
