Georgian Carnelian Shell Bottle Pendant

A beautiful pendant from the late Georgian period. The pendant has a wonderful bottle that is made from carnelian that has been carved into a shell design. It is complete with a 9ct gold top. It would normally be possible to remove the top allowing for it to be used as a scent bottle. In this instance the top has been secured and it no longer opens. The pendant is complete with two little belcher chains, which test as around 15ct gold, and lead from each side of the top to a central bail. The lid of the scent bottle is engraved with the letters E.I.P.

The pendant comes on the 9ct gold chain pictured. It is a fine cable link measuring around 0.8mm wide and is approximately 16” long.

Size - The bottle measures approx 20.5mm wide by 26mm high. The whole piece measures approx 48mm long from the top of the bail to the base of the bottle.

Condition - Very good. Some wear commensurate with age.
