Georgian Square Paste Earrings

sold out

A wonderful pair of earrings from the Georgian period, modified in antiquity. The earrings have beautiful square cut paste stones, similar to peruzzi cuts, with a high and small table. Paste is a form of glass from the 18th Century with lead added to create sparkle that imitates diamonds. These particular paste stones are very bright and could easily pass for the real thing when worn. The stones have been set in silver pinched collet settings, as you would expect at the time, and these original Georgian settings have been set in a closed back gold ‘box’. The gold is 15ct gold and the earrings have shepherds hook fixtures. They have been beautifully made and look wonderful in the ear.

Details:

Materials - 15ct Gold (tested), Silver, Paste

Age - Paste and silver settings, c1790, Gold settings, likely early Victorian

Size - The paste measure approx 7mm square

Condition - Very good. Some very minor nibbles to the facet edges, noted for accuracy and only visible through magnification

Weight - 3.63g the pair
