Georgian Urn Locket Mourning Ring
A wonderful and rare example of a Georgian mourning ring. The ring is made from 15ct gold and has an inscription to the back, which has worn over time, though is still mostly legible. It says ‘Never Despair, EF, Ob. 29 Sep, -80-’. The first and final part of the date are very faint or missing, but I believe it could be 1804. The ring has a black enamel panel to the top that has certainly seen some life and is not perfect. It contains a little urn shaped frame with a glass front that can be removed revealing a locket compartment. There are three silver balls to the sides and bottom. The top silver ball has a little diamond set within it. The locket front sits comfortably in its frame and is secure.
This ring should be worn with care due to the locket front and the condition of the enamel.
