Georgian White Enamel Mourning Ring
An absolutely stunning and rare ring from the early 19th Century, dated with an inscription that reads 10th June 1802. The ring has the most exquisite white enamel bordered by black enamel and is, sadly, a mourning ring for a child. At the centre is a lovely rectangular picture frame, which is glass fronted with red woven fabric behind. The shoulders have beautiful swag bows with tassels, all picked out in gold and the enamel continues all the way around the back of the shank.
The inscription to the back reads ‘Everest Stevens, Obt 10th June 1802, At 11 Mos’. At the beginning I believe it is either Miss or Mstr, though this is fairly tricky to confirm. I am inclined to think it is Miss. This beautiful piece has been commissioned to commemorate the sad death of a baby. Such a beautiful and poignant ring.
As a note, the glass cannot be removed and the ring is as it is.
