Rare French Spinning Charm
A wonderfully rare charm that is French in origin and from the Victorian period. It is a spinning top used to play the game ‘He loves me, he loves me not’. The charm is made from 900 silver that has been gilded to give it a soft gold appearance that has a matte finish. The lettering is picked out in black enamel with ‘Il M’Aime, Un Peu, Beaucoup, Passionnement, Pas Du Tout’ meaning ‘He loves me, A little, A lot, Passionately, Not at all. The final sixth panel has a flower in colourful enamel. The charm is a good size and substantial in appearance. I feel very lucky to have one of these pass through my hands!
The chain pictured is for display only.
Details:
Materials - 900 Silver (marked and gilded), Enamel
Age - Victorian
Size - The charm measures approx 28mm long (excluding bail) by 9mm
Condition - Very good. Some wear commensurate with age. The enamel lettering is generally fairly good. Some dark patina here and there that I have chosen not to clean as I do not want to affect the gilding.
Weight - 3.04g
