Rare Victorian Family Book Locket
An absolutely stunning locket from the mid Victorian period, c1860s. The locket is made from solid 15ct gold and is beautifully made. It has a textured front and back with dark blue enamel details in relief to represent the bindings of the book. The spine is a series of engraved gold sections that interlink and allow the book to open seamlessly. Inside, there are four ‘pages’. Each page can be viewed on both sides and has a little internal leaf that can be taken out at the bottom. You can add your own photos on either side of the leaf to show through the windows on each side of the page. Currently, the antique photos remain in place. The book closes on a secure latch and has a lovely substantial weight, highlighting its quality.
The chain pictured is for display only. The book is fairly stiff to open and opens to around 60 degrees maximum with a little gentle effort, though the pages can be turned and the photos can be viewed.
