sold out
A beautiful lock from the Victorian period, c1870s. The lock is made from solid 12ct gold and has a wonderful piece of agate set into the front. The agate has beautiful colours of red, mustards and browns against a grey tone background. The play of colours is very subtle and the variation makes it very beautiful. The setting has been engraved around the edge and the soft scalloped design is pretty. To the back is a little oval glass locket that can be removed to place your own photo or momento behind. This lock would have held a bracelet together and is a fully functioning clasp. It is Scottish agate and is synonymous with a style of jewellery that became popular from the mid 1800s onwards due to Queen Victoria's frequent trips to Balmoral Castle. This is a lovely example with a good firm click to the clasp.
