Victorian 5 Stone Paste Ring
A pretty antique ring from the late Victorian period, dated Birmingham 1896. The ring is made from solid 9ct gold and has a full English hallmark on the inside of the shank. It has a decorative mount and five pretty paste stones have been set across the finger. The paste stones draw a little colour and vary between a soft yellow and a soft grey. It is pretty engraved examples and is a lovely example.
Paste was highly popular and is a type of reinforced glass used to imitate diamonds. Often, ladies would have their real jewels copied in paste to allow them to wear them out and avoid theft.
