Victorian 9ct Three Picture Locket

sold out

A simple and unusual locket from the Victorian period. The locket is a 9ct back and front meaning that it is 9ct gold to the back and the front and has brass inners. This is a common method of construction for lockets during this period. It is unusual as it has space for three photos rather than the usual two. It opens to reveal two frames inside and beneath one of the frames is space for another photo with a glass back to face the photograph outwards. To the front, the locket is decorated with beautiful engraving with an ivy leaf motif and a plain cartouche. Ivy has many connotations, though the most well known are fidelity and eternal life.

The locket is complete with the original faceted bail, a lovely detail, and has a pretty, slightly puffy shape. It will come on a 14kt gold fill chain similar to the one pictured.

Details:

Materials - 9ct Gold (tested), Brass Inners

Age - 1880s

Size - The locket measures approx 21mm in diameter excluding the bail.

Condition - Very good. A little wear commensurate with age

Weight - 4.2g locket only.
