Victorian Acorn Vinaigrette Locket

sold out

A beautiful and rare pendant from the Victorian period. The pendant has been designed as an acorn and tests as around 15ct gold. The top opens on a hinge to the back and has a small decorative grille inside that also opens on a hinge to one side. The acorn base would have contained a little piece of scented cotton and this would have hung on a chain offering a little hint of perfume when the smell of daily life became too much.

The acorn has a smooth bottom with a slightly textured top to represent the look of a real acorn. The bail is styled from the stem of the nut and the whole piece has been designed with thought and precision. It is truly exquisite, though it is a fine and delicate item that should be worn with care.

The chains pictured are for display only.

Details:

Materials - Approx 15ct Gold (tested)

Age - Victorian

Size - The acorn measures approx 29mm long from the top of the bail to the tip of the nut. It is around 12.9mm wide at its widest point.

Condition - Good. Some signs of repair at the hinge and a split in the gold on the top, please see the pictures. This is not visible when worn and noted for accuracy only. General signs of wear overall with tiny dings here and there. No large dings to note. This has been well loved, though remains in good order generally.
