A wonderful French locket thought to be from the mid 19th Century, c1850s/60s. The locket is a wonderful example of painted porcelain and still shows much vibrancy in the colours. The painting depicts a female figure holding a lyre. The lyre has come to be the symbol of poets and in more general terms represents cosmic harmony. This lady has been beautifully painted and the locket is very pretty on the neck. The locket opens and has a fairly large cavity to hold a momento or picture if required. The back of the locket is a lovely thick oval piece of glass meaning that whatever is placed inside could be viewed easily. A truly beautiful and unusual piece in excellent condition.

The locket will come on a 14kt gold fill chain as pictured.

Details:

Materials - 18kt Gold (marked with French eagles head), Painted Porcelain, Glass (back)

Age - C1850s/60s (Romantic Period)

Size - The locket is a fairly good size measuring approx 23mm long excluding the bail by 18mm wide.
