Victorian French Diamond Heart Locket

£1,795.00

An absolutely stunning heart from the Victorian period, originating from France. It is made from solid 18ct gold, which is marked with the eagle head hallmark on the inside. The front of the heart is set throughout with rose cut diamonds in a silver setting. This is a common method of setting diamonds during this period as the white metal of the silver highlights the diamonds to their best advantage, and this piece was made before the dawn of white gold and platinum use in jewellery.

At the centre is a larger rose cut diamond and the stones have a slightly broody appearance, perfect for sparkling in the candlelight of the period. Inside, there is a bevelled glass in a gold frame with a little lip to aid opening; another lovely feature in French lockets. The heart is complete with the original diamond set bail. Such a beauty and in super condition, particularly considering its age and It is so rare to find an original diamond heart locket these days.

The chain pictured is for display only.
