Victorian Garnet Twist Pendant

sold out

A beautiful pendant from the Victorian period, c1880s. It is made from solid 18ct gold, which is marked on the side of the jump bail and has the most wonderful twist border in the rich 18ct gold. At the centre is a stunning deep red cabochon garnet, which truly glows from within. To the back is a glass fronted locket with a pretty bevelled edge. The locket is tricky to remove and would need to handled by a goldsmith to do this. As it is, the beautiful garnet in the lovely gold rope border with its original bail makes a fabulous pendant.

The chain pictured is for display only.

Details:

Materials - 18ct Gold (marked), Garnet, Glass back

Age - Late Victorian

Size - The pendant measures approx 23mm long, excluding the bail, by 20mm wide. The bail makes the length 30mm. The garnet is around 16.5mm by 13.5mm

Condition - Good. Some piercing to the gold twist on the back near the bail, please see pictures. There is a little sign of lead in amongst the twist of the border. It is not wholly clear why this is there and does not detract from the piece overall. There is a flaw within the garnet, this is not surface reaching. A beautiful quality item showing a little age, price has been adjusted accordingly.

Weight - 7.15g
