Victorian Greek Philosopher Cameo Ring

£680.00

A wonderful ring from the early to mid Victorian period, c1860s. The ring is made from 18ct gold and has a hollow shank. The shank is a rich and beautiful colour of gold that compliments the high relief cameo in the centre. The cameo has been carved into carnelian, which is a lovely burnt orange colour. The carving is exquisite and in lovely condition. I believe it to be Socrates as he had a very distinctive nose shape. The Victorian era was an age of progress, though they were also fascinated about the past and liked to learn about their history. This ring is a representation of that.

Details:

Materials - 18ct Gold (tested), Carnelian

Age - C1860s

Size - The cameo measures approx 15mm by 10mm in the setting. It sits around 7mm from the finger.

Ring Size - UK V 1/2 US 11 This ring cannot be resized due to the hollow shank.

Condition - Very good. The back of the shank has a ding to it (pictured), likely from previous wear. Some minimal wear to the underside of the setting, likely from being worn next to other rings. A little slit in one side of the shank, noted for accuracy only and all in good order overall.
