Victorian 'In Memory Of' Diamond Cross Ring
A wonderful ring from the Victorian period, inscribed with a date from 1874. The ring is made from 15ct gold and has an oval panel at the top that has a little cross design picked out in rose cut diamonds. The shoulders of the shank have blocked letters with the words ‘In Memory Of’ across the two shoulders. The gold has a texture to it, as originally this ring would have had black enamel around the cross and the letters. This has likely worn over time and the remaining enamel has been removed to leave a completely gold ring with no remnants of enamel visible.
This ring came to me as it is, though I also wonder whether the cross has had the diamonds added to it at a later stage. Despite its various reincarnations, the diamonds are certainly in keeping with the style and overall, I find the ring to be very striking. The diamonds glisten prettily and it has an appealing signet-like form. This would certainly be a one-of-a-kind ring.
