Victorian Large Elephant Seal
A wonderful statement seal from the Victorian period, c1880s. The seal is 9ct gold cased; this means that it has a thick layer of 9ct gold soldered to a brass interior. It is a common method of production during this period for items such as seals and fobs and the outer layer is often very hard wearing. This particular seal is a lovely, large size and shows beautiful repoussé work on the base. Sitting on top of this is an elephant. The elephant has been beautifully crated and has a characterful face. The base is set with a rock crystal quartz.
Please note that the bail is approx 6mm in diameter and would only fit a fine chain through. This piece would be best worn on a heavier chain that has a dog clip or split ring, particularly due to its weight.
Details:
Materials - 9ct Gold Cased, Rock Crystal Quartz
Age - Victorian
Size - The seal is approx 25mm high excluding the bail. The base is around 24mm by 21mm.
