Victorian Large Paste Drop Earrings
A spectacular pair of earrings from the early Victorian period in a beautiful antique box. The earrings have the most beautiful large old cut black dot paste stones set into cut down collet settings. The paste are large and clear and have been expertly cut. Paste is a form of glass that has been reinforced with lead allowing it to be cut freely to resemble diamonds. These particular paste stones sparkle beautifully in their silver settings and you can see the point at which the black dot was painted on the culet of each stone; a practice that was believed to give the stone more depth.
The paste sit in fine closed back domed settings and are framed by a geometric design. These earrings have a little loop fitting remaining on the back at the bottom showing that they were originally part of a larger pair of earrings. How much more spectacular would they have been then? These are a wonderful and bright pair of earrings, easily mistaken for the real thing.
They come in the purple lined antique earring box as pictured. What a beautiful treat!
