Victorian Ouroboros Earrings
A wonderful pair of earrings from the early Victorian period. The earrings are likely Italian in origin and test as around 14kt gold. They have a lovely, artisan appearance and are handmade. They are an ouroboros; an ancient symbol of a snake eating its own tail, which symbolises the continuous cycle of life and death or rebirth. These hoops have a lovely charm about them - they are slightly different in size and not so precise in their make. Their symbolism cannot be mistaken, however. These particular earrings open on a hinge, feed into the ear back to front and clip in place securely. They are an excellent size making a wonderful statement in the ear.
Details:
Materials - 14kt Gold (tested thereabouts). Some marks, though they are illegible.
Age - Early Victorian
Size - The earrings measure approx 32mm in diameter (outer edge).
Condition - Very good. Some wear commensurate with age
Weight - 4.3g the pair
